For RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), the recommended tool is the official Ookla Speedtest CLI binary, which supports architectures like x86_64, aarch64, and arm64. The older Python-based speedtest-cli is no longer actively maintained and may conflict with the official binary.
To install the official Ookla Speedtest CLI on RHEL 8, 9, or 10:
Add the Ookla Repository:
curl -s https://packagecloud.io/install/repositories/ookla/speedtest-cli/script.rpm.sh | sudo bash
Install the Package:
sudo yum install speedtest
# or on newer RHEL versions using dnf:
sudo dnf install speedtest
Run a Test:
speedtest
